Police suspect an Indian Navy soldier killed his wife and children on August 14, erased evidence, and allegedly committed suicide the day after his family was discovered dead at their Mumbai home.
On August 15, the dead bodies of Purnamal Mehra, his wife Oma, and their two-month-old and three-year-old children were discovered inside their Navy Nagar home. The authorities came to the conclusion that Oma and the kids might have passed away before Mehra based on the state of the remains.
Mehra scrubbed his home before he passed away, according to the police. An official from the Cuffe Parade police station stated, “We suspect that he cleaned the house, cleared the trash can, formatted his and his wife’s phones, and placed the bodies on the bed.” Currently, the police are attempting to recover data from the electronic devices. The person continued, “The data might be crucial for the ongoing investigation.”
In order to file a First Information Report against Mehra, the police are also awaiting the definitive post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death. We believe he strangled the two-month-old infant with a pillow. The official stated that the three-year-old and his spouse were most likely poisoned.
After discovering the dead, the police filed an accidental death report. It was discovered throughout the investigation that Mehra had murdered his family members at least 24 hours prior to his purported suicide. Mehra’s body had not started to decompose, but the bodies of the wife and children had, according to the authorities. Mehra was receiving therapy for depression, according to the police. According to reports, his siblings had severed their relationship with him due to disagreements over money and property. Eight people’s statements have been recorded by the police.
“We are trying to establish the exact timeline of the events. A person from Navy Nagar, who reached on the spot on August 15, told us that his residence was locked from inside and the door was later broken open as nobody responded,” the official said.
