A shocking but unconfirmed accusation by a Pakistani journalist that the former prime minister of Pakistan “might have died in jail” has emerged amid ongoing concerns about Imran Khan’s wellbeing.
Months ago, there were rumors that Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had passed away. Many of Khan’s relatives claimed they were not allowed to see him.
Now residing in the United States, Wajahat Saeed Khan has made a shocking assertion on the former prime minister’s wellbeing. “Three senior military sources told him that Imran Khan is no longer with us,” he stated in an interview.
He did point out that the sources in issue had only learned about the information thru unofficial routes and were unable to independently verify it.
Since 2023, Imran Khan, a 73-year-old former cricket player turned politician, has been detained at Adiala Jail due to several charges. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, his party, has frequently asserted that he is unable to see his relatives. Additionally, they assert that he is not receiving proper medical care for his ailments, particularly a disease relating to his eyes. As worries about Khan’s health grew, his family and other party members said on Tuesday, August 11, that they were being refused access to the former premier.
“Over two million people were ready to take to the streets,” according to PTI leader and chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi. He issued a warning to the Pakistani leadership, saying that “the anger among Pakistan’s youth could become impossible to contain.”
“We neither politicize Imran Khan’s health, nor has Imran Khan ever raised the issue of his health to seek any kind of relief,” Afridi added. In addition to announcing a lengthy march to Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, on September 27, the PTI has threatened to stage protests even earlier if Imran Khan’s family and party colleagues are not allowed to visit him.
Imran Khan’s extended detention and worries about his health have put tremendous pressure on the Pakistani government, both domestically and internationally. Thirteen US congressmen from both parties urged US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to speak with Islamabad immediately about the conditions of Imran Khan’s and his wife Bushra Bibi’s confinement.
