Mumbai suburban rail passengers should prepare for service changes on Sunday, August 2, 2026, when Central Railway conducts a mega block on its Main and Harbour lines. The temporary suspension supports essential engineering and maintenance work needed to maintain the safety and reliability of the network.
On the Main Line, the block will cover the up and down fast tracks between Matunga and Mulund from 11:05 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. During this window, down fast trains departing CSMT between 10:36 a.m. and 3:10 p.m. will shift to the slow line between Matunga and Mulund. These services will stop at all regular stations and are expected to run about 15 minutes late before returning to the fast corridor beyond Mulund. Up fast trains leaving Thane between 11:03 a.m. and 3:38 p.m. will follow a similar path on the slow line between Mulund and Matunga, also facing delays of around 15 minutes.
Harbour Line operations will see more extensive cancellations. A block will be in place between CSMT and Chunabhatti/Bandra from approximately 11:10 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Down services from CSMT toward Vashi, Belapur, Panvel, Bandra, and Goregaon will be suspended for much of this period. Up trains heading to CSMT from Panvel, Belapur, Vashi, Goregaon, and Bandra will likewise remain cancelled during the designated hours.
To ease the impact, Central Railway will run special shuttle trains between Panvel and Kurla (Platform 8) at roughly 20-minute intervals throughout the block. Harbour Line passengers will also be permitted to travel on the Main Line and Western Railway services between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
No mega block is planned on the Western Line, Trans-Harbour Line, or Uran Line, so those services are expected to operate as usual.
Authorities have advised commuters to check updated schedules in advance, allow extra travel time, and consider alternative routes where possible. These periodic blocks form a regular part of network upkeep to keep Mumbai’s busy suburban rail system functioning safely for the long term.
