Gujarat Weather: Heavy Rain Eases; IMD Forecasts Light to Moderate Showers for Next 7 Days, Fishermen Advised to Stay Off Sea

Ahmedabad: Days of relentless rain across Gujarat are finally letting up. The India Meteorological Department says the state won’t see heavy downpours for at least a week, just scattered light-to-moderate showers. Coastal areas aren’t fully in the clear, though strong winds have prompted a fresh advisory for fishermen.

Light Rain Expected Through July 15

IMD Ahmedabad director A.K. Das says Gujarat will see light to moderate rain at isolated to scattered spots from July 9 through July 15. Saurashtra and Kutch can expect similar conditions a few pockets of showers rather than anything widespread.

Ahmedabad itself is in for mostly cloudy skies, with occasional bursts of light-to-moderate rain through the day.

Fishermen Told to Stay Ashore July 11-12

The bigger concern is along the coast. IMD says wind speeds will climb from the current 30-40 kmph to as much as 50 kmph on July 11 and 12, and fishermen have been directly told not to head out on those two days.

Coastal wind speeds are expected to keep rising through the week, IMD said, with thunderstorms and rain possible along the coast and sea conditions running moderate to rough.

There’s some relief too: the cautionary signal that had been up along the South Gujarat coast has now been withdrawn.

Monsoon Still Running 9% Behind Normal

Gujarat’s seasonal numbers remain below average. The state has recorded 162.5 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon, against a normal of 178.7 mm a shortfall of 9%.

So even with the immediate rain threat fading, conditions aren’t fully settled. Residents get a break from the downpours, though humidity will likely persist, and fishermen are being asked to keep a close eye on the coast in the days ahead.
