England Announce ODI Squad for India Series; James Coles, Josh Tongue Earn Maiden Call-Ups

England have named a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India, with young all-rounder James Coles and fast bowler Josh Tongue earning places in the lineup.

The series will begin at Edgbaston on July 14, with Coles receiving his maiden ODI call-up after previously being included in England’s T20I squad against India. Tongue, who is yet to make his ODI debut, has retained his place following a string of impressive performances in Test cricket, particularly during the 2025 Ashes.

Atkinson, Mahmood Return to Strengthen Pace Attack

England have also welcomed back pace bowlers Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood as they bolster their bowling attack for the home series.

Harry Brook will captain the side, which also features experienced players including Jos Buttler, Joe Root, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer and Sam Curran.

England head into the series after securing a 2-1 ODI series win over Sri Lanka in January, recovering from an opening-match defeat to clinch the series.

Among the notable omissions from the squad are Zak Crawley, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton and Luke Wood.

ODI Series Schedule

The three-match ODI series will begin at Edgbaston on July 14, followed by the second match in Cardiff on July 16. The third and final ODI will be played at Lord’s on July 19.

Meanwhile, India are currently playing a five-match T20I series against England. In the opening match, India posted 189/7, powered by Abhishek Sharma’s 59 off 24 balls and Shreyas Iyer’s 68, while Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 42.

After an early batting collapse, Abhishek’s aggressive innings revived India’s total before Shreyas anchored the middle overs. However, persistent rain interrupted play and the match was eventually abandoned without a result.
