Tragedy On ‘Love And War’ Set : Crew Member Dies After Alleged Electric Shock, Bhansali Production Offers Rs 40 Lakh Compensation

Mumbai: A tragic accident on the set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much anticipated film Love And War has sparked fresh concerns over worker safety in the Indian film industry. A 42 year old crew member, identified as carpenter Chandradhari Yadav, reportedly died after suffering an electric shock while working at Mumbai’s Royal Pump Studio in Goregaon East. In the aftermath of the incident, Bhansali Productions has announced a compensation package of Rs 40 lakh for the deceased worker’s family.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. on June 17 while Yadav was on duty at the film set. Preliminary accounts from worker unions suggest that a suspected short circuit may have caused the electric shock, although authorities are still awaiting the official post mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.

Yadav, a member of the Film Studio Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union (FSSAMU), is survived by his wife and two daughters. Following the tragedy, representatives from FSSAMU and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) approached the film’s producers seeking financial support for the bereaved family. Bhansali Productions subsequently agreed to provide ₹40 lakh as compensation.

However, labour bodies argue that financial assistance alone is not enough. FWICE has reportedly demanded that the compensation be increased to ₹50 lakh and has urged the production house to take responsibility for the education of Yadav’s children. The federation has also sought employment opportunities for his wife to help secure the family’s future.

The incident has reignited debate over safety standards and working conditions on film sets. Union leaders claim Yadav had been working extended hours in the days leading up to the accident, raising questions about compliance with labour regulations and workplace safety norms. Industry bodies are now calling for mandatory safety audits, stricter electrical inspections, and regulated working hours across film productions.

“Love & War”, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, remains one of Bollywood’s most awaited upcoming releases. Yet, the focus has now shifted from the film’s star power to the urgent need for stronger safeguards behind the scenes. As investigations continue, the tragedy serves as a stark reminder that the people who build cinematic spectacles deserve safe and secure working environments.
