Kalyan: Residents across Kalyan-Dombivli are expected to face a 12-hour disruption in water supply on June 2 after the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) announced a temporary shutdown of its water distribution system.
According to information released by the civic body, the suspension will remain in effect from 8 am to 8 pm on Tuesday. The move is part of a broader water management strategy aimed at ensuring sufficient drinking water availability in the coming months.
Decision Linked To Concerns Over Delayed Monsoon
As reported by local authorities, the decision follows directions issued during the 2026 Budget Session regarding water conservation planning. Officials cited concerns over a possible delay in monsoon rainfall due to the anticipated impact of climatic factors such as El Niño and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD).
The authorities have instructed civic bodies and water supply agencies to prepare adequate plans to manage drinking water resources until August 31, 2026, in case rainfall arrives later than expected.
Water Purification Centres To Remain Non-Operational During Shutdown
KDMC officials stated that water supply from major treatment facilities located at Barave, Mohili, Netivali and Titwala will remain suspended during the scheduled period.
The temporary closure forms part of a coordinated water resource management plan prepared in consultation with the Water Resources Department. Civic officials believe the measure will help regulate available water reserves and reduce the risk of shortages during the summer and monsoon transition period.

- Nearby villages under the Kalyan Rural Division

KDMC Appeals For Responsible Water Usage
The municipal corporation has urged citizens to cooperate with the temporary restriction and adopt responsible water consumption practices. Officials said the preventive measure is intended to help maintain water availability if monsoon rainfall is delayed this year.
The information was reported by Newsband and other local media outlets following KDMC’s announcement regarding the planned shutdown.
