Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir to Visit Tehran as Iran Reviews Latest US Peace Proposal

Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir will visit Tehran on Thursday, May 21, as Iran examines the latest US proposal to end the West Asia conflict, Iranian media reported. Iran’s ISNA news agency said the visit was aimed at “talks and consultations” with Iranian authorities, without providing further details.
The visit follows a meeting on Wednesday between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Pakistan has been attempting to mediate a peace deal between the US and Iran since the war broke out on February 28, when US and Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on Iran.
As Iran reviewed the latest US proposal, Tehran repeated its demands for the release of its frozen assets abroad and an end to the US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian ports.
Trump Warns Ceasefire Could End Soon
On Wednesday, Trump warned that the ceasefire in effect since April 8 could collapse if diplomacy continued to stall. “If we don’t get the right answers, it goes very quickly. We’re all ready to go,” he told reporters.

Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded by accusing Washington of threatening to restart the war. He warned of a “forceful response” from Iran, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said that if conflict resumed, it would spread far beyond West Asia.
