Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump reportedly had a difficult and emotionally charged phone conversation regarding the ongoing Iran conflict and possible ceasefire negotiations, according to reports cited by Hindustan Times.
The report stated that tensions surfaced between the two leaders as discussions focused on whether military action against Iran should continue or if diplomatic efforts should be given more time. Sources familiar with the conversation claimed Netanyahu appeared deeply concerned during the exchange, with one source describing the Israeli leader as having his “hair on fire,” reflecting the intensity of the situation.
According to Axios, a revised peace proposal backed by regional mediators, including Qatar and Pakistan, was at the centre of the discussion. The proposal reportedly outlines steps related to Iran’s nuclear programme, sanctions relief, and a gradual diplomatic framework between Washington and Tehran.
While Trump has publicly indicated that negotiations with Iran remain possible, he also warned that the opportunity for diplomacy may not remain open for long. Hindustan Times reported that the US president said the talks were close to a critical point and could quickly shift depending on Iran’s response.
Reports suggested Netanyahu strongly favoured maintaining military pressure on Iran, whereas Trump appeared more willing to explore diplomatic alternatives before approving any further escalation. The disagreement reportedly exposed differences in strategy between Washington and Tel Aviv over how to handle the conflict moving forward.
The developments come amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, with fears growing over a broader regional conflict if ceasefire negotiations fail. Iran has also issued warnings against any renewed attacks, while international mediators continue efforts to prevent further escalation.
