BTS Joins Mexico’s President to Welcome Massive Crowd

Mexico City witnessed an extraordinary public moment on May 6 as global K-pop sensation BTS appeared alongside President Claudia Sheinbaum to greet thousands of devoted fans ahead of the group’s highly anticipated performances.

The seven-member group—RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook—first met the president at the National Palace. They then stepped onto the balcony overlooking Constitution Plaza in Zócalo Square, where an estimated 50,000 fans, known as ARMY, had gathered after waiting for hours. Government officials confirmed the scale of the turnout for the event.

The enthusiastic crowd chanted hits including “Hooligan” and songs from BTS’s new album *ARIRANG*. They also performed “Body to Body,” a track incorporating elements of the traditional Korean folk song “Arirang,” creating an electric atmosphere in the historic square.

Addressing the fans in a mix of Spanish and English, the members expressed their excitement for the upcoming shows. RM told the audience, “We can’t wait for tomorrow’s concert on stage. Let’s have fun together! Te amo. Te quiero. Muchas gracias.” V, speaking in Spanish, added, “I have missed you all. We have missed Mexico so much. The energy here is incredible. Thank you so much for loving us. See you next time. Goodbye.” Before departing the balcony, V playfully remarked “Mucho picante!”, echoing a phrase he had used earlier during the *ARIRANG* tour in El Paso.

Following the appearance, RM, SUGA and Jimin shared photos and videos of the massive gathering on their Instagram Stories. President Sheinbaum posted a group photograph on social media, in which she was seen holding a signed vinyl record. In her accompanying message in Spanish, she stated, “I warmly welcome one of the most beloved groups among the youth of Mexico: BTS. Music and values unite Mexico and South Korea.”

The three concerts scheduled for May 7, 9 and 10 at Estadio GNP Seguros have sold out completely, with more than 136,000 tickets sold. This marks BTS’s return to Mexico after their last performance in the country in 2017 at KCON Mexico held at Mexico City Arena.

The event underscored the enduring popularity of the South Korean act in Latin America and highlighted the warm diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations through music
