Kash Patel Under Fire For Handing Out Personalized Bourbon Bottles To FBI Staff

Washington: A controversy has erupted around FBI Director Kash Patel after reports alleged that he distributed personalised bourbon bottles engraved with his name and FBI branding to bureau employees and civilians during official engagements. According to a report by The Atlantic, the bottles featured the inscription “Kash Patel FBI Director” along with an FBI shield and references to Patel’s position as the agency’s ninth director.
The report stated that the customised bottles, produced using Woodford Reserve bourbon, were allegedly handed out during official travel and FBI-related events. Sources quoted by The Atlantic claimed some bottles were even transported aboard Department of Justice aircraft while Patel travelled for work assignments.
The FBI did not deny that Patel distributed the bottles. However, the bureau defended the practice, saying commemorative gifts have long existed within FBI traditions and that Patel followed applicable ethics rules. The agency also maintained that any personal gifts were paid for privately.
Despite the explanation, several current and former FBI officials reportedly expressed discomfort over the practice. According to the article, some employees viewed the personalised liquor bottles as inappropriate for the country’s premier law-enforcement agency and feared that rejecting such gifts could negatively affect workplace dynamics.
The controversy arrives amid broader scrutiny surrounding Patel’s leadership style and conduct as FBI Director. Recent reports by The Atlantic and other media outlets have also highlighted allegations related to excessive drinking and internal tensions within the bureau, claims Patel has strongly denied. He has also filed a defamation lawsuit against The Atlantic over previous reporting.
