India Declare At 503/9 After Dhruv Jurel’s Century: Rain Disrupts Second Test

Colombo: India declared their first innings at 503/9 on Monday, the second day of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka, amid repeated interruptions due to rain.

After Devdutt Padikkal’s 117, Dhruv Jurel also struck a century, remaining unbeaten on 115. Shortly after Jurel completed his second Test century, captain Shubman Gill declared the innings.

Several other Indian batters also made valuable contributions to the huge total. Rishabh Pant, who had retired hurt after suffering a hand injury while batting on Sunday, returned to the crease on Monday and contributed to India’s imposing score with an attacking 63 off 89 balls.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 45, Shubman Gill made 50 and Ravindra Jadeja contributed 43 in India’s total of 503.
New spin prospect Manav Suthar also made a useful contribution, scoring 18 runs off 51 balls.

When Shubman Gill declared the innings, Dhruv Jurel was unbeaten on 115 and Prasidh Krishna was not out on four.
Among Sri Lanka’s bowlers, fast bowler Asitha Fernando was the most successful with four wickets, while spinners Keshara Nuwantha and Prabath Jayasuriya claimed two wickets each.
