Gujarat Orders Transfer Of 518 Police Inspectors In One Day, 27 New Officers Sent To Cyber Unit

Gujarat’s Home Department on Thursday transferred 518 Police Inspectors across the state in a single order the biggest PI reshuffle the department has seen in one sitting. It came the same day 254 PSIs were promoted and transferred in the morning, making Thursday an unusually busy day for the state’s police machinery.
Department sources said the transfers are being pushed through ahead of local self-government elections. Officers who had been sitting at the same posting for extended periods were specifically targeted. The state already ran a round of IPS transfers earlier, so this move takes that overhaul down to the inspector level the rank that actually runs police stations on the ground. The biggest cities take the most heat here. Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara will all get new faces at key stations.

Two specific transfers are doing the rounds inside the force. Ten officers were pulled out of the Intelligence Bureau in one go not something that happens often, and it has people talking. On the other side of the ledger, 27 new inspectors were posted to the Cyber Centre for Excellence. Cybercrime cases in the state have been climbing, and the government is clearly trying to put more capable hands on that unit.
