Kal Somani-Led Consortium Acquires Rajasthan Royals In $1.63 Billion Deal

Rajasthan Royal Franchise is now owned by a consortium led by US-based entrepreneur Kal Somani. He has led enterprises in Ed-tech, data privacy , AI governance and sports tech. Along with that, he is the founder of global giants such as IntaEdge, Truyo, Truyo.AI and Academian. 

Not just that Somani is being backed by American Businessman Rob Walton, of the Walmart Family and the Hamp Family that also has majority stakes in NFL’s Detroit Lions. Sheila Ford Hamp is also a part of the Ford Family that holds a major stake in Ford Motor Company. The consortium had a bid of $1.63 billion. 

When Somani invested in 2021 in Rajasthan Royals, he said ” We see a huge potential with this investment, and we are excited for the future of the IPL” 

Moreover, Somani’s association with sports lies as he is co-owner of Motor City Golf Club and was an early investor in TMRW Sports and TGL Golf League. As per the sources, the current owners were in touch with the Royals past six months for a 100% sale of the team. 

Not just that, Kal Somani is seen as a serial entrepreneur with strong networking in the American Tech ecosystem. He first started to get a knack of sport which then later turned into involvement of team ownership.
