Mumbai commuters braced for significant inconvenience on Sunday, February 15, 2026, as Indian Railways implemented a comprehensive mega block across the Central, Harbour, and Western lines for essential maintenance and safety upgrades.

On the Central Railway, the up and down fast lines between Matunga and Mulund stations remained blocked from 11:05 am to 3:45 pm. During this window, fast local services were rerouted onto the slow lines, leading to the cancellation of certain trains and delays of around 15-20 minutes for others. Fast trains beyond Thane were redirected back to the fast line at Mulund.

The Harbour Line saw a parallel block between Kurla and Vashi from 11:10 am to 4:10 pm. This resulted in the full cancellation of up and down local services connecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Vashi, Belapur, and Panvel in the affected timing slots. To mitigate hardship, special local trains operated on the CSMT–Kurla and Panvel–Vashi sections. Services between Thane and Vashi/Nerul continued without interruption.

Over on the Western Railway, a jumbo block affected the up fast line and fifth line between Ram Mandir and Borivali from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Up fast services were diverted to the up slow line (sixth line in some references), while trains on the fifth line shifted to the down fast line. Certain Harbour line locals were curtailed at Goregaon, contributing to further delays for passengers.

Railway authorities stressed that these blocks—primarily for track renewal, equipment maintenance, and security enhancements—are vital for ensuring long-term operational safety and reliability on Mumbai’s overburdened suburban network. Officials urged travelers to check updated schedules via the official railway website or mobile applications in advance, plan journeys accordingly, and adhere to safety protocols at stations. Temporary shelters and information boards were arranged at select locations to assist commuters during the disruptions.

While the works caused temporary hardships for daily passengers, they form part of routine efforts to maintain the infrastructure supporting millions of journeys across the city. Commuters were advised to allow extra travel time and consider alternative modes where feasible.
