30-Hour Water Supply Cut Hits Chembur, Govandi & Nearby Areas Starting Tomorrow

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 30-hour complete suspension of water supply in several neighbourhoods across Mumbai’s eastern suburbs, set to begin at 2 am on Thursday, February 12, and continue until 8 am on Friday, February 13. According to News18, the measure is necessary for essential infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing the long-term reliability and efficiency of water distribution in the M East and M West wards.

The interruption will fully halt supply in parts of Govandi, Chembur, Mankhurd, and Shivaji Nagar. The civic body is carrying out key works, including the installation of a 1,200 mm diameter sluice valve on the inlet main at the Turbhe Low Level Reservoir and the connection of a 1,200 mm inlet pipeline to the AMT-II tunnel shaft.

In the M East Ward, the shutdown will impact areas such as HPCL Refinery and Colony, RCF Colony, BARC, BPCL Colony, Tata Colony, Anik Village, Sahyadri Nagar, MHADA Colonies, Om Ganesh Nagar, Rahul Nagar, Ashok Nagar, and surrounding residential and industrial zones.

In the M West Ward, affected localities include BPT, BPCL and Tata zones, Mahul Village, Chembur Camp, Sindhi Society, Vashi Naka, Jijamata Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Ashok Nagar, MHADA buildings, RC Marg, and adjacent neighbourhoods.

The BMC has urged residents in these locations to stockpile sufficient water in advance and to use it sparingly throughout the period. Officials further recommend boiling and filtering all drinking water for three days after supply resumes as a precautionary measure.

This planned disruption forms part of the municipal corporation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Mumbai’s water infrastructure, particularly in the eastern suburbs where such upgrades are intended to deliver more consistent service in the future.
