Chennai : Tamil Nadu Governor, R N Ravi, on Saturday said that Bharat is not merely a geographical entity but a mother, and argued that Vande Mataram deserves the same status as the national anthem. The Governor said the idea of Bharat as a mother had been neglected after Independence, a shift he described as unfortunate. “Bharat is not just a geographical entity. It is mother.
Ravi strongly pitched for greater recognition of Vande Mataram, saying the song should be accorded equal standing with the national anthem. “Vande Mataram should have equal status as the national anthem. Unfortunately, it is ignored. We need Vande Mataram to be played,” he said. The Governor’s remarks come amid ongoing political and cultural debates in Tamil Nadu over the use of national symbols and language, issues that have often triggered sharp reactions across the political spectrum.
In Tamil Nadu, there are schools and colleges where Vande Mataram competitions are held,” he said, suggesting that the song still carries emotional and cultural significance for many. According to those present at the event, the Governor’s address focused solely on Vande Mataram and its importance, without touching upon other political or administrative matters.
