How Trump Made Rs 12,800 Crore In 2nd Term
New York : US President Donald Trump boasted in Davos that he was making America great and rich again. In his usual chest-thumping style, Trump falsely claimed his policies and tariffs ushered in $18 trillion in investments. However, in reality, it is the American consumers who are bearing the brunt of his tariff war, while the US President seems to be pursuing a “Make Trump Richer” agenda.
Trump saw his wealth surge by at least $1,408,500,000 amid renewed scrutiny of his business interests and charges that he was monetising the presidency. To arrive at the figure, NYT relied on analysis by various news organisations. However, this might be just the tip of the iceberg, as some of his profits are not publicly available. To put this in perspective, the average US household income, which has been in freefall, is around $83,000 (Rs 76,70,860).
It includes a luxury hotel in Oman, a golf course in Saudi Arabia and an office tower in Maharashtra. The ‘Trump World Centre’ in Pune will be the first Trump-branded commercial real estate project in India. It is expected to bring in over $289 million for Trump. Interestingly, the same Trump, months ago, labelled India a “dead economy” as ties strained over his tariff and trade tantrums. While the President has weaponised tariffs to sign lopsided trade agreements, such real estate deals have also brought favours for some countries.
After Vietnam greenlit a $1.5 billion golf complex in Hanoi to be built by the Trump Organisation, the tariffs were lowered to 20%. In fact, reports said the government bypassed laws to fast-track Trump’s project. A video went viral where Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was heard on a hot mic asking Trump if he could meet with his son Eric, who is looking after the family’s businesses. While the details of the conversation were not clear, it pointed towards business deals.
Last year, the first Trump-branded golf club opened in March in Indonesia. Another property in Indonesia and a resort in Bali are also listed on the Trump Organisation’s website. Real estate isn’t the only way the US President has made money since assuming the presidency. The biggest moneymaker for Trump over the past year has been his cryptocurrency ventures. The President pocketed at least $867 million via his family-linked World Liberty Financial company and a meme coin.
