Cheers Turn to Tears: Ahmedabad Police Bust Illegal Liquor Party at Hotel, 9 Detained

Ahmedabad: What began as a New Year’s Eve celebration ended in police custody for nine young men after Sabarmati police raided an illegal alcohol party at a city hotel on Thursday. The group was arrested under the Gujarat Prohibition Act for consuming liquor without valid permits.
Raid Following Tip-Off
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team conducted a raid in the early hours of Thursday at room number 608 of AB Fortune Hotel in the Sabarmati area. Officers discovered evidence of an unauthorized liquor party, including two plastic water bottles, empty beer cans, disposable plastic glasses and plates, and bottles containing alcohol. Police also seized mobile phones valued at approximately ₹1.96 lakh as part of the evidence.
Further investigation identified the main accused as 26-year-old Himanshu Rathod, a resident of Chandkheda in Ahmedabad. He was found hosting and consuming alcohol without any valid permit or license. Several other individuals present at the gathering were summoned for questioning, leading to the arrest of nine persons.
A case has been registered against them under the Gujarat Prohibition Act and provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police have warned that such raids will continue as part of an ongoing enforcement campaign to curb illegal alcohol consumption and related anti-social activities in the city.
