US Lawmaker Who Wanted To Kill H-1B Visa Programme To Resign Amid Trump Feud, Who Is Marjorie Taylor Greene?

New York : Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who proposed a bill to end the H-1B visa programme, has announced she would resign as a lawmaker in January. The announcement by Greene, previously an ardent Donald Trump supporter, comes amid her public clashes with the US President. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced that she would be resigning from her seat in the House of Representatives, cutting short her third term just days after a public feud with US President Donald Trump. Her announcement came on Friday (US time).

Green has been a longtime Trump supporter and is also considered one of the prominent voices of MAGA leaders. Greene has consistently backed Trump on issues ranging from the January 6 riots and his 2024 campaign to his immigration policies. Trump announced he was withdrawing his endorsement of Greene and called her a “lunatic”, which was just a day after she said she was introducing a bill to end the H-1B programme.

Marjorie Taylor Greene proposed the bill just two days after Trump defended the H-1B visa programme, whose majority of beneficiaries are Indians, saying the US needed to bring in talent from abroad to address a shortage of domestic workers for available jobs. Reports suggested that Trump was already frustrated with Greene’s persistent demands to release the Epstein files, but it was her bill targeting the H-1B visa programme that prompted him to publicly criticise her.

Greene, who arrived in Congress in 2021, has until recently been an ardent and outspoken Trump supporter, CNN reported. During her interview with CNN, the news anchor told the GOP leader, It sounds like you’re saying that (Trump) is not representing the MAGA movement. To which she replied: “I can say that promoting H-1B visas to replace American jobs, bringing in 600,000 Chinese students to replace American students’ opportunities in American colleges and universities, those are not America first positions.

Greene was the first Republican lawmaker, for example, to say that there is a genocide in Gaza and has been one of the loudest voices demanding that the Epstein files be released, The Guardian reported. Greene has actively campaigned for their release and voiced strong support for the Epstein survivors. She has also criticised the MAGA movement for not focusing on affordability or putting America first.

When the interviewer interjected and said, “We have plenty of talented workers,” the President quickly shot back, “No, you don’t. You don’t have certain talents. People have to learn. You can’t take people off an unemployment line and say, ‘I’m going to put you into a factory where we’re going to make missiles. Additionally, he also praised foreign students, saying they are important for business. Both F-1 student visas and H-1B visas have been prime targets of MAGA voices.

“I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene,” Trump wrote, accusing her of doing little besides “COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!” despite what he described as his own “record achievements” in office. “(Greene) has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but I can’t take a ranting lunatic’s call every day,” said Trump.
