New Delhi : A suspected white-collar terror module of Jaish-e-Mohammed, linked to last week’s Red Fort car bomb blast in Delhi, was allegedly preparing to carry out a major fidayeen attack on December 6, sources said.
According to sources, the module had been planning a large-scale suicide strike using a car-borne explosive device, with preparations in motion for weeks. Interrogation of the arrested suspects revealed that doctor Shaheen Shaheed and Umar, the terrorist killed outside the Red Fort, were central to the plot.
Dr Shaheen was allegedly tasked with establishing and leading JeM’s women’s wing in India, under the banner of Jamaat-ul-Momineen, a newly launched female recruitment and operations network of the banned outfit. A substantial quantity of explosives had been stockpiled in Faridabad for the planned December 6 attack. Investigators said Umar had been trying to prepare several young men for potential fidayeen missions and had been actively brainwashing them.
These revelations emerged as the National Investigation Agency intensified its probe into the Red Fort car bomb blast, arresting a Kashmiri man who allegedly played a crucial role in helping suicide bomber Dr Umar Un Nabi execute the November 10 attack that killed 10 people and injured 32. Investigators have now established that the suicide bomber roamed around with the explosive-laden car for nearly 10 hours on the day of the blast and also moved through several VVIP areas of Delhi.
Amir was arrested in Delhi after investigators confirmed that the car used in the blast was registered in his name. According to the NIA, he had travelled to the capital to assist Umar in securing the vehicle that was later turned into a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. The agency said Amir had actively conspired with Umar, an Assistant Professor of General Medicine at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, to carry out the bombing near the Red Fort.
