Satish Shah Collapsed Mid-Lunch, Says Devastated Manager
Mumbai, Maharashtra – Renowned Indian actor Satish Shah, aged 74 and beloved for his comedic genius across film and television, passed away abruptly on Saturday afternoon following a sudden collapse during lunch, according to his longtime manager, Ramesh Kadatala.
In an emotional interview with ANI, Kadatala described the tragic sequence of events. “Kal lunch karte samaye hua tha (It happened around 2 or 2:45 pm while he was having lunch). Vo khana khaate khaate ek niwala khaye fir collapse hua (he ate a bite and then collapsed). Kuch half an hour laga ambulane laane mein (It took around half an hour to get the ambulance)… hospital jaane par declare kiya doctor ne..,” he shared, his voice heavy with sorrow.
Eyewitness Anup, a neighbor who rushed to Shah’s side immediately after Kadatala’s urgent call, paid tribute to the late star’s gentle nature. “As soon as Ramesh called me, I went there. Satish kaka ke liye madat chalu kiya.. hum koshish karte rahe unko sahi karne ke liye (We kept trying to help him). He was such a good person–an artist with a big heart. Jis jis ko bulaya tha vo turant chale aaye kaam chodkar ke (Everyone we called came immediately, leaving their work),” Anup told ANI, underscoring the outpouring of support from those who knew him.
Kadatala provided further details on Shah’s recent health struggles, noting that the actor had received a kidney transplant on June 16 in Kolkata. “After that, everything was normal. There was a little urinary infection, but antibiotics were started,” he explained, highlighting how the veteran had appeared to recover steadily until the unforeseen incident.

An ambulance arrived at Shah’s residence in Mumbai on Sunday morning, where preparations are underway for his final rites. The ceremony is scheduled to commence at 12 noon at Pawan Hans in Vile Parle (West).
Over a career stretching more than four decades, Satish Shah etched his name in the annals of Indian entertainment with unforgettable humorous characters. His film credits boast classics such as the satirical gem Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), family drama Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Main Hoon Na, poignant romance Kal Ho Naa Ho, Shah Rukh Khan’s Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Om Shanti Om, and ensemble comedy Shaadi No. 1.
Yet, it was Shah’s portrayal of the pompous yet endearing Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai that cemented his legacy as a master of television comedy, drawing laughter from generations of viewers.
Tributes continue to flood social media from fans, fellow actors, and industry peers, as Bollywood grapples with the void left by one of its most cherished funnymen.
