The Delhi Cabinet has approved the launch of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, a flagship welfare initiative aimed at providing financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month to eligible women across the national capital. The registration process for the scheme will begin on August 1, while the first instalment is scheduled to be transferred on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.
Announcing the decision after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the scheme is intended to strengthen the financial independence of women from economically weaker households. The government will soon launch a dedicated online portal to facilitate registrations and ensure a streamlined application process.
Under the approved guidelines, the scheme will be available to women aged 21 to 60 years who have been residing in Delhi for at least 10 years. Applicants must belong to families with an annual income of up to ₹2.5 lakh. Only one woman from each eligible family will receive the monthly benefit, and in cases where more than one woman qualifies, the eldest eligible member of the household will be selected.
The government has also outlined several exclusion criteria. Women or family members with a criminal record, those owning a four-wheeler, or families already availing specified government financial assistance schemes may not qualify for the benefit. Officials said these conditions are intended to ensure that the assistance reaches households most in need.
Eligible beneficiaries will receive the monthly assistance directly into their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and timely payments. Applicants will be required to submit prescribed documents during registration, with detailed instructions expected to be made available when the online portal goes live.
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana was introduced as part of the government’s commitment to enhancing women’s economic security. With Cabinet approval now in place and registrations set to begin shortly, the administration expects the scheme to benefit a large number of eligible women by providing regular financial support to help meet everyday household expenses.
