Kajol Shares Emotional Struggle During Ajay Devgn’s 2012 Dispute with YRF

In a recent interview with The Lallantop, Bollywood star Kajol opened up about the emotional turmoil she experienced during the high-profile 2012 Diwali box office clash between her husband Ajay Devgn’s film Son of Sardaar and Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The conflict, which centered on screen allocation, placed Kajol in a challenging position due to her personal ties to both sides.
Kajol described the dispute as a difficult period, particularly because it remained unresolved for some time. “Conflicts are always tough, especially when they linger,” she told The Lallantop. She explained that both Ajay Devgn, who co-produced Son of Sardaar, and YRF, led by her close friend Aditya Chopra, were staunchly defending their respective interests. “Being connected to both, I felt powerless,” Kajol admitted, noting that she could only wait for time to ease the tensions and restore normalcy.
The controversy erupted when Devgn Films, formerly Ajay Devgn FFilms, lodged a complaint with the Competition Commission of India, alleging that YRF had leveraged its industry dominance to secure more theater screens for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, limiting the reach of Son of Sardaar. Both films hit theaters on November 13, 2012, intensifying the competition during the lucrative Diwali weekend. The commission ultimately dismissed the complaint, finding it lacked merit.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Kajol offered a philosophical perspective, stating, “Change is just change neither good nor bad. It’s said that change is the only constant.” She suggested that the passage of time has helped mend the rift, with the issue now largely forgotten by those involved.
On the professional front, Kajol was recently seen in the mythological horror film Maa, directed by Vishal Furia and co-produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande. She is now preparing for her next project, the action-thriller Sarzameen, co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan, set to stream from July 25.
