Woman Tragically Dies During Child Delivery In Talala: Doctor Performed C-Section Without Proper Expertise, Probe Reveals

Talala: A heartbreaking case of alleged medical negligence has come to light in Talala, Gir Somnath district, where a woman died during childbirth after an unauthorized cesarean operation. The doctor responsible, who lacked anesthesiology expertise, went ahead with the surgery without adequate facilities or specialist support. A government probe has confirmed serious lapses, and a formal complaint has been filed.

On May 25, 2025, Kaviben Nandaniya was admitted to Vaghasia Hospital in Talala for child birth. The next day, she underwent a C-section performed by Dr. Akshay Hadiyal, a gynecologist but not a certified anesthesiologist. During the procedure, Kaviben suffered excessive bleeding. The hospital lacked critical care units like an ICU, and she was not referred in time to a better-equipped facility. She died shortly after, without seeing the face of her newborn daughter.

Kaviben’s tragic death has left behind a grieving family, including a 5-year-old son and a newborn daughter. Her husband and extended family are demanding justice, devastated by the loss.

Dr. Hadiyal had resigned from a government hospital position in April 2025 and started private practice at Vaghasia Hospital on May 1. Within just 25 days, this fatal incident occurred.
Investigations have uncovered that he was also linked to two prior maternal deaths during cesarean procedures in January 2025, though those cases were not formally pursued by the victims’ families at the time.

Following a formal complaint from the victim’s husband, Jayeshbhai, local police contacted the District Medical Officer. A panel of three senior doctors was assigned to investigate. After a month-long inquiry, the panel concluded that Dr. Hadiyal acted negligently by conducting the surgery without anesthesiology expertise and by delaying emergency referral. Their report was submitted to Talala Police on July 1.

Based on the findings, police have filed a case against Dr. Hadiyal under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for medical negligence. The incident has sparked intense discussion in the region about patient safety, hospital accountability, and the regulation of private medical practice.
