IMA Gujarat Appeals To Tata Sons For Compensation For BJ Medical Students Affected In Ahmedabad Plane Crash

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat state branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has appealed to Tata Sons to extend compensation and support to medical students of BJ Medical College who were injured or killed in the recent Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.

The tragic crash of an Air India flight on June 12 claimed the lives of nearly 290 individuals, including 241 passengers onboard. Following the incident, Tata Sons, the parent company of Air India, announced a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of deceased passengers and committed to covering medical expenses for those injured.

However, the devastation extended beyond the aircraft. The plane struck the BJ Medical College hostel, leading to further casualties among students and staff on the ground. In light of this, IMA Gujarat sent a formal letter on Saturday to N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, urging the company to offer similar financial and humanitarian support to the affected medical students.

“We humbly request you to consider extending financial assistance and necessary support to the medical students present at the crash site who were injured or lost their lives in this unfortunate event,” the letter stated. The IMA emphasized the unique role of the students, describing them as “future pillars of our healthcare system,” and asserted that their families deserve the same level of care extended to passenger victims.

Previously, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson had addressed the plight of the injured students, affirming, “Air India is committed to providing full and unstinting assistance in these difficult times.”
