Starlink Receives Licence To Launch Satellite Internet In India, Move Could Boost Affordable Internet Across Country

New Delhi : Elon Musk’s Starlink has received key approval from the Indian government. PTI reported citing sources. It has been said that company waiting since two years for approval. According to sources, Department Of Telecommunications (DOT) has given licence to third such companies. It is meant that now starlink prepare to give high speed internet in the country using its satellite.

Apart from Starlink, OneWeb and Reliance Jio’s satellite arm also have such licence. Starkink had applied for licence three years ago. Whereas Amazon’s satellite project Kuiper is yet to get approval from the Indian government. Earlier, Starlik and Reliance Jio had difference of opinion over spectrum allocation. Starlink said that spectrum should be assigned without bidding. While Jio wanted it should be auctioned like mobile networks. Finally Starlink’s view was granted by government.

Starlink or the DOT have not made any statements regarding this move. This movement might bring affordable internet severvice in rural areas of the country. According to a recent report based on insights from analysts, reveals that a company plans to launch its services in India at an attractive promotional price of under $10 per month, which is about Rs 840. This offer will provide unlimited data plans. The goal is to quickly grow the number of users, aiming for around 10 million subscribers in the coming years. By doing this, the company hopes to manage its costs more effectively and make their services more affordable for everyone.
