A public petition targeting the Garosero Research Institute, a controversial YouTube channel, has amassed over 50,000 signatures in less than two weeks, fueled by allegations surrounding actor Kim Soo Hyun and the late actress Kim Sae Ron. Filed on May 22 through South Korea’s National Assembly electronic petition system, the petition calls for stricter regulations on online platforms to curb privacy violations, false reporting, and harmful content. Titled “Petition to Improve the System to Prevent the Repeated Spread of False Information and Human Rights Violations on Online Platforms,” it seeks accountability for content creators and platforms that disseminate unverified and damaging material. As of June 3, the petition had garnered over 54,000 supporters, reflecting growing public demand for legal reforms to address cyber defamation.

The controversy centers on Garosero Research Institute, operated by Kim Se Ui, which has faced widespread criticism for releasing private and sensitive content involving Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron. The petition highlights claims of distorted reporting, manipulated narratives, and deliberate misinformation, accusing the channel of prioritizing engagement and views over truth and ethics. The petitioner argued that Garosero’s actions have caused significant harm to public figures and their families, crossing ethical boundaries.
