Gurugram: A daring incident of fuel theft has come to light on the outskirts of Gurugram, where the driver of a premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) managed to deceive station workers and flee with a full tank of petrol without clearing the bill. As reported by The Tribune, the brazen getaway resulted in significant property damage at the refueling facility, leaving the station attendants completely shocked.
The management of the commercial fuel station has formally approached the local law enforcement authorities to trace the fleeing vehicle and apprehend the suspect.
Deceptive Tactics Caught on Security Cameras
The entire operational sequence was documented clearly by the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed across the station property. According to The Tribune, the visual footage highlights the driver arriving at the Yash Filling Station located along the busy Pataudi-Bilaspur road corridor late on Thursday night driving a gleaming black Mahindra Scorpio.
The suspect initially stepped out of the vehicle and maintained a completely normal demeanor to avoid raising suspicion while communicating with the workstation personnel. He instructed the pump attendant to top up the SUV’s fuel tank with petrol. However, the driver’s cooperative routine proved to be a calculated distraction designed to create a window for an immediate escape.
Rapid Acceleration Causes Supply Pipe Damage
The situation escalated drastically the moment the electronic display unit on the fuel dispensing machine reached the ₹6,000 mark, indicating a fully replenished tank. Before the station worker could safely disengage the refueling nozzle from the SUV or request the mandatory payment, the young man quickly climbed back into the driver’s seat.
Jagbeer Singh Tanwar, the owner of the fuel station, stated that the perpetrator immediately started the engine and accelerated sharply out of the station bay. The getaway was executed with such extreme velocity that the fuel delivery hose, which was still firmly attached to the vehicle’s intake tank, was violently dragged along before snapping completely. The mechanical rupture caused pressurized petrol to spray into the open air, causing panic among the on-duty staff.
Bilaspur Police Launch Investigation and Registration Trace
Following the targeted theft, the station manager lodged an official criminal complaint at the Bilaspur police station. A senior police official confirmed that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated to identify the individual behind the crime.
Law enforcement teams are actively reviewing the primary CCTV footage from the filling station to extract a clear view of the Scorpio’s registration plates. Additionally, investigators are scanning supplementary surveillance feeds from nearby intersections and arterial roads along the Pataudi-Bilaspur route to track the vehicle’s movement patterns, with officials assuring that the suspect will be arrested shortly.
