VIDEO : Nepal Finance Minister Chased On Street, Thrashed By Protesters

New Delhi : As Nepal’s KP Sharma Oli government collapses in the face of massive protests over corruption and social media ban, a video surfaced on Tuesday in which Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel was chased on a road and thrashed by demonstrators. PM Oli resigned from his post after protesters attacked and set his house on fire. “I have resigned from the post of prime minister with effect from today… in order to take further steps towards a political solution and resolution of the problems,” Oli said.
Besides Oli, at least 4 ministers of his government have also stepped down. Hundreds of youth, under the banner of Gen Z, hit the streets in Kathmandu and other Nepalese cities on Monday over a ban on social media and corruption. At least 19 people were killed and over 300 people were injured during ‘Gen Z’ protests. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Foreign Minister Arju Rana also suffered injuries.

The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu has been fully closed following demonstrations. The Nepali Army has been deployed to provide security at the airport. Gen Z demanded dissolution of Parliament, mass resignation of parliamentarians and immediate suspension of those who gave “shoot to kill” or violent orders during protests. The group said that the interim government should be led by a person recommended by protesters while calling for early elections.
