Turkish Airlines Flight THY-727 Catches Fire Minutes After Takeoff From Kathmandu Airport

Kolkata : A Turkish Airlines flight carrying 236 passengers made a full emergency landing at Kolkata airport on Wednesday. The Turkish 727 aircraft was operating from Kathmandu to Istanbul when the captain informed Kolkata Air Traffic Control about the suspected engine fire. Following this, the flight diverted to Kolkata.

The actual time of arrival at Kolkata NSCBI Airport was 14:49 hours, with 236 passengers on board. The aircraft is at Kolkata airport now. An inspection is going on, the Airport Director, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport, Kolkata, said.

The aircraft involved in the incident was an A330-303, which had 236 people on board. This included 225 passengers and 11 crew members. After the possible fire was detected, the aircraft was diverted west of Kathmandu, and the right engine was shut down by pilots, holding the aircraft for around 10 minutes.
The flight landed safely at Kolkata airport at 2:49pm.

“The actual time of arrival at Kolkata NSCBI Airport was 14:49 hours, with 236 passengers on board. The aircraft is at Kolkata airport now. An inspection is going on,” the Airport Director of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport, Kolkata, said. An inspection of the aircraft is currently underway to determine the cause of the suspected fire.
