Bengaluru : A major dispute has emerged between Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Pvt. Ltd and a Gram Panchayat in Karnataka’s Bengaluru Rural district on Monday with local authorities alleging tax non-payment. The Gram Panchayat has issued a notice to Foxconn seeking details of approved building plans, construction licences, completion and occupancy certificates and survey-wise built-up area information for its facilities in Doddagollahalli and Aruvanahalli villages, which together span approximately 5.33 lakh square metres.
Panchayat officials said that while large-scale construction has already been completed and operations have reportedly begun, official records still list the land parcels as vacant sites.Terming the issue a serious violation of statutory obligations, the Panchayat has warned that legal action will be initiated under the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act if the company fails to comply within seven days.
Local elected representatives and residents have alleged that despite repeated correspondence and several meetings with company officials, Foxconn has neither shared the required documentation nor ensured employment for local youth. They also claimed that although residents were initially called for interviews, the company eventually recruited workers from outside the region. Local residents have threatened to launch a large-scale protest later this week if their demands of local employment are not addressed by the company.
