Ayodhya : The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on Wednesday deferred decisions on appointing its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and inducting three new trustees, while announcing a major restructuring of the temple’s religious oversight system.
At a meeting held at Mani Ramdas Chhavni under the chairmanship of Trust President Nritya Gopal Das, members decided to postpone the CEO appointment for a month, giving the selection committee additional time to examine more than 5,200 applications. The trust is expected to take up the matter again at its next meeting on September 2.
The trust also approved the reconstitution of its religious committee. According to the trust treasurer, the newly formed nine-member panel will oversee the temple’s religious affairs and will comprise five seers from Ayodhya and four representatives of the trust, giving local saints a more prominent role in temple administration.
During the meeting, the trust expressed dissatisfaction with the State Bank of India’s earlier role in the donation-counting process and approved significant changes to the system. All 36 personnel previously engaged in counting donations have been replaced with regular SBI employees. The trust clarified that the eight individuals arrested in connection with the alleged donation-counting irregularities were not among the 36 staff members who have now been replaced.
The trust also approved a proposal to appoint an official spokesperson to improve public communication. At the same time, it rejected claims that the controversy surrounding donation-counting irregularities had eroded public faith or reduced the number of pilgrims visiting the Ram Temple.
