New Delhi : Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan landed in the national capital for a roughly two-hour visit, during which Prime Minister Modi broke from protocol to greet him at the airport. The visit, though brief, is being viewed as diplomatically significant, coming amid expanding cooperation between the two countries across defence, trade, energy and regional security.
Went to the airport to welcome my brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. His visit illustrates the importance he attaches to a strong India-UAE friendship. Looking forward to our discussions,” Modi wrote, tagging the UAE leader. The visit comes as part of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s official trip to India, undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.
The trip builds on recent exchanges between the two sides, including the visit of Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, in September 2024, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Deputy Prime Minister, Defence Minister and Crown Prince of Dubai, in April 2025. India and the UAE share close and multi-dimensional ties rooted in political understanding, cultural links and growing economic cooperation.
The UAE remains one of India’s key trading and investment partners, with the relationship strengthened through frameworks such as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, the Local Currency Settlement system and the Bilateral Investment Treaty.
