New Delhi : PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday mourned the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, describing him as “a leader of the people” with a strong grassroots connect. Shri Ajit Pawar Ji was a leader of the people, having a strong grassroots level connect. He was widely respected as a hardworking personality at the forefront of serving the people of Maharashtra, PM Modi said in a post on X.
He added, His understanding of administrative matters and passion for empowering the poor and downtrodden were also noteworthy. His untimely demise is very shocking and saddening. Soon after the crash, PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis to seek updates, the state government said.
The aircraft went down during landing and burst into flames. Initial reports confirmed that there were no survivors. An eyewitness said, “I saw it with my eyes. When the aircraft descended, it seemed it would crash, and it did crash. Then it exploded. There was a massive explosion. After that, the aircraft was on fire. There were four to five explosions again. People tried to pull out those inside, but the fire was too huge.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah called Pawar’s death a personal loss and said the entire NDA family stood with the bereaved family. The way he dedicated himself to the welfare of every section of society in Maharashtra over the past three and a half decades cannot be expressed in words, Shah said. Throughout his long public life, he remained committed to the development and prosperity of Maharashtra. He was known for his compassion for the people and his unwavering dedication to public service, Singh said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described the news of Pawar’s death as extremely painful and said he stood with the people of Maharashtra in this hour of grief. DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said the crash was a loss to the country” and called for a detailed report by civil aviation experts. TDP MP Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu recalled Pawar’s role in developing Baramati, saying he had personally seen how the Pawar family worked for farmers.
Union Minister CR Paatil said Pawar’s death would change the dynamics of Maharashtra politics. Congress MP Imran Masood said the loss of “such an energetic leader” was deeply saddening. Telangana Congress spokesperson Sama Ram Mohan Reddy said Pawar’s death was “a huge loss for Maharashtra and the entire nation”. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy said the news was “very shocking and sad”.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh called the incident “heart-rending” and “an irreparable loss”. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said his prayers were with the Pawar family. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant remembered Pawar as “a bold man” who played a major role in Baramati’s development. RSP MP Nk Premachandran and Congress MP Pramod Tiwari called for a thorough investigation into the crash.
