Mumbai : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar died after his plane crashed on Wednesday morning while attempting to land in Baramati. NCP workers were seen devastated and crying as news of Ajit Pawar’s death spread. A top official of the jet operator, VSR Ventures Private Limited, said the aircraft involved in the crash that killed Ajay P was “100 per cent safe” and that the crew was “fairly experienced.”
Flight tracking website Flightradar said the aircraft was attempting a second approach to Baramati Airport when it crashed. “The news of the tragic death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajit Pawar and his fellow passengers in a plane crash today is deeply saddening. I stand with the people of Maharashtra in this moment of grief. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the entire Pawar family and their loved ones during this difficult time,” said Rahul Gandhi.
Eknath Shinde, the Shiv Sena leader and fellow Deputy Chief Minister, said it was a black day for Maharashtra as he condoled the death of Ajith Pawar in the plane crash. Ajit Pawar was heading to his hometown of Baramati to address a series of public rallies ahead of local elections.
Chronology Of Tragedy
- The accident occurred this morning at approximately 8.45 am.
- The crash took place at Baramati Airport in the Pune district during an attempted landing.
- The flight was a private Learjet 45 (registration VT-SSK) operated by VSR, travelling from Mumbai to Baramati.
- According to the DGCA, the aircraft veered off the runway during its second approach, burst into flames, and was completely destroyed.
- All five individuals on board were killed.

Ajit Pawar was heading to his hometown of Baramati to address a series of public rallies ahead of local elections. “Deeply saddened by the tragic untimely demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Shri Ajit Pawar Ji. Sincere condolences to his family, supporters and the people of Maharashtra. Om Shanti,” Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
