Pakistan Intensifies Shelling in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara

Srinagar, May 8, 2025: Pakistani forces continued cross-border shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district for the second consecutive day on Thursday, following India’s military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure. The barrage, which began after midnight in the Karnah area, involved mortars and shells aimed at civilian zones, prompting a robust response from the Indian Army.
The Indian armed forces retaliated effectively to the unprovoked aggression, with no immediate reports of casualties. Most residents of Karnah had already relocated to safer areas on Wednesday after Pakistan initiated shelling in response to India’s Operation Sindoor, a precision strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The operation, launched early Wednesday, targeted nine terrorist facilities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.
Defence sources told that the Indian Army’s swift counteraction inflicted significant damage on multiple Pakistani military posts in the Kupwara and Rajouri-Poonch sectors, with reports of substantial casualties on the Pakistani side. The escalation follows Pakistan’s repeated ceasefire violations, marking a sharp increase in tensions since the Pahalgam attack.
