NEET Re-Test Paper Setters Put Under Lockdown Till June 21 As NTA Rolls Out Highest-Ever Security Shield

New Delhi: With the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination just days away, authorities have placed all experts involved in setting, moderating and translating the question paper under strict lockdown at a secure undisclosed location until the exam concludes on June 21. The unprecedented move is part of a multi layered security plan aimed at preventing any breach after the original examination was cancelled over allegations of a paper leak.

Officials said those involved in the confidential stages of question paper preparation have been cut off from phones, laptops, internet access and all external communication. Entry and exit from the facility are being closely monitored, with only authorised personnel allowed access. The lockdown will remain in place until the completion of the re-test.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Education Ministry have introduced enhanced safeguards across every stage of the examination process, including paper creation, translation, printing, packaging, storage, transportation and distribution. The system has been compartmentalised to ensure that no individual or group has access to the entire chain of operations, reducing the possibility of leaks.

The re-examination is scheduled for June 21 in pen and paper mode after the May 3 NEET-UG 2026 exam was cancelled amid allegations that a “guess paper” circulated on messaging platforms contained questions similar to those asked in the test. More than 22 lakh candidates were affected by the cancellation, making the upcoming examination one of the most closely watched entrance tests in recent years.

To strengthen security, authorities have implemented stricter monitoring at examination centres, including CCTV surveillance, mock drills, emergency preparedness measures and post exam forensic analysis of footage. Additional layers of protection have also been introduced for the transportation of question papers and the handling of sensitive examination material.

Meanwhile, the NTA has dismissed claims circulating online about fresh leaks of the re-exam paper, calling them “false and fraudulent” and warning of strict action against those spreading misinformation. The agency has repeatedly urged students and parents to rely only on official communication channels for updates related to the examination.

For the government and the NTA, the June 21 re-test is more than just another examination. It is seen as a crucial opportunity to restore confidence in India’s largest medical entrance exam and demonstrate that the integrity of the process can be protected through stringent security and transparency measures.
