Monsoon Session : Rahul Gandhi, Other Opposition MPs Detained During ‘Vote Chori’ Protest March

New Delhi : Congress MP Shashi Tharoor slams the Election Commission for insisting on oath and affidavit, asks why it is not giving serious answers. All Members of Parliament from the Opposition parties who were protesting against ‘vote xchori’ have been detained by the Delhi Police and taken in two buses.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who was leading the ‘vote chori’ protest march to the Election Commission, has been detained by the police. Along with Gandhi, other opposition MPs including Priyanka Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav have also been detained. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav jumped over a police barricade as Delhi Police stopped INDIA bloc leaders marching from the Parliament to the Election Commission.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore, commenting on the Opposition’s protest, alleged that the government is worried because it won the election through vote theft and manipulation. We are demanding to have a discussion in Parliament for 14 days on SIR, and vote theft. The government is afraid. Today we have moved an adjournment motion, we hope that it is accepted, if it is accepted, we will have discussion. But the government is afraid because they have won elections by stealing votes, manipulation with ECI. We want to register our protest,” he said.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh moved a notice under Rule 267 to discuss the Constitutional and Electoral impact of SIR going in Bihar in Lok Sabha. The Election Commission has written to Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, seeking the names of 30 opposition MPs who will meet the commission at 12 pm today. EC has granted an appointment for an interaction at 12.00 pm today. It is requested that, due to the limitation of space, names of up to 30 persons may kindly be intimated…, the letter said.

Barricades have been put up outside the Election Commission of India as the INDIA Bloc leaders are set to stage a march from the Parliament to the Election Commission to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar and allegations of “voter fraud” during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
