Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi trained his guns on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at poll rallies in Golaghat and Biswanath on Sunday, alleging that India’s energy security has been surrendered to Washington and that the state is governed remotely from New Delhi.
“The situation now is this India can’t even buy oil from any country without Trump’s permission. Narendra Modi has handed over India’s energy security and data into America’s hands. This is the result of Narendra Modi being compromised,” Gandhi told the Golaghat gathering.
He went further, claiming US President Donald Trump had publicly stated he could end Modi’s career at will. “Trump openly said Narendra Modi calls me ‘sir’, I can end his career whenever I want,” Gandhi alleged, adding that Trump holds what he described as an “Epstein file” containing damaging information about the Prime Minister. He also linked a US criminal case against industrialist Gautam Adani to BJP’s finances, saying Trump “knows that this is the BJP’s financial system.”

Turning to Assam’s chief minister at the Biswanath rally, Gandhi called Sarma “the most corrupt, hate-spreading chief minister in India” and warned that Congress’s “Babbar Shers” would ensure his prosecution. “He made a blunder by including his family in the corruption now even his family will get accused,” he said.

Gandhi framed the state’s governance as a chain of control running from Washington downward. “Donald Trump controls Narendra Modi, and Narendra Modi and Amit Shah control your CM. Assam is run from Delhi,” he charged.
Invoking celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, Gandhi drew a contrast between what he described as Congress’s unifying philosophy and the BJP’s “divisive politics,” pledging that a Congress government would deliver justice in the Zubeen Garg case within 100 days of taking office.

On policy commitments, Gandhi outlined several specific promises: SC/ST status for six communities in Assam, a daily wage of ₹450 for tea garden workers, an unconditional monthly cash transfer to every woman directly into her bank account, and a ₹50,000 startup grant for aspiring entrepreneurs all to be implemented within the first 100 days of a Congress government, he said. Assam votes on April 9, with results due on May 4.
