Siddaramaiah, Shivakumar Head To Delhi As Congress Weighs Next Moves

Bengaluru: Karnataka politics could soon witness a major generational shift as the Congress leadership prepares for life after Siddaramaiah. With talks of D.K. Shivakumar stepping into the Chief Minister’s role gaining momentum, the party is also considering a younger and slimmer cabinet a move many insiders are calling the “Kerala model.”

The idea is to give more opportunities to fresh faces instead of relying on the same senior leaders who have dominated the party for years. Several veteran ministers may lose their positions if the reshuffle goes ahead, making room for younger MLAs ahead of the next Assembly election battle.

For Congress, this is not just about changing faces. The party wants to send a message that it is ready to adapt, reconnect with young voters and reduce internal power struggles. Leaders believe Kerala’s recent approach of promoting younger leadership has helped improve the party’s image, and Karnataka may now follow a similar path.

Siddaramaiah’s departure from the top post will mark the end of an important era in Karnataka politics. Even so, the veteran leader is expected to remain influential within the party because of his strong support among backward classes, minorities and Dalits.

Meanwhile, D.K. Shivakumar faces the tough task of balancing party unity with public expectations. If the transition happens smoothly, Congress could project itself as a party trying to reinvent itself rather than simply changing its Chief Minister.

The coming weeks may decide whether Karnataka Congress truly embraces a new generation or continues to depend on its old guard.
