Karnataka Congress Crisis : Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah Agree To Reshuffle Cabinet, Follow Congress Top Brass’ Orders

New Delhi : As an apparent power tussle intensifies in Karnataka, a group of MLAs loyal to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has headed to New Delhi to urge the party high command to honour the promise of sharing the top post. Top sources in the Congress said that there is no discussion on a Karnataka Chief Minister change despite the ongoing buzz.

Including a minister, from the Shivakumar camp travelled to the national capital on Thursday, with several others expected to follow on Friday. The MLAs are planning to meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary KC Venugopal to press their demand that the party implement what they claim was an internal power-sharing arrangement agreed upon in 2023. Kharge is set to return to Bengaluru today and will attend a scheduled programme upon his arrival.

Earlier on Tuesday, MLAs Ravi Ganiga, Gubbi Vasu, Dinesh Gooligowda and others had already arrived in Delhi to take up the issue with the party leadership. On Friday, MLAs Anekal Shivanna, Nelamangala Srinivas, Kunigal Ranganath, Shivaganga Basavaraju and Balakrishna are also expected to reach the capital, sources said. The Congress has never officially confirmed such an agreement, and Siddaramaiah has repeatedly maintained that he will remain chief minister for the full five-year term.

The party leaders need to take a decision on the cabinet reshuffle. There are a total of 34 ministerial posts, out of which two posts are vacant. These vacant ministerial positions will be filled during the cabinet reshuffle, he said. Amid speculation over leadership change, Siddaramaiah marked 2.5 years of his “Guarantee Sarkara” on X, highlighting people-centric governance and reaffirming that Karnataka’s progress remains his only priority.

He said the government is committed to social justice, empowerment, and building a resilient, progressive Karnataka, stressing that their work continues with stability, sincerity, and an unwavering focus on every Kannadiga. Reacting to the sudden movement of MLAs to Delhi, Shivakumar distanced himself, saying he was “not aware” of the developments and was “not keeping well.
