New Delhi : Speculation over the circumstances surrounding the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar as Vice President refused to die down, with the opposition demanding answers from the government over the shock development. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge suggested that some mischief was at play behind the sudden move. The government should answer why he resigned. I can see ‘dal mein kuch kaala hai’. His health is fine. He always defended the RSS and the BJP. Who and what is behind his resignation should be known to the country,” Kharge, who had frequent run-ins with Dhankhar in the Rajya Sabha, said.
Monsoon session of Parliament, Dhankhar, 74, resigned as the Vice President, citing health concerns. The reason, however, found few takers as opposition MPs said the former West Bengal governor appeared in good health. Even his bete noire, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said Dhankhar was healthy and doing absolutely fine. Pouncing on it, deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi claimed the Prime Minister’s post showed the political nature of the resignation.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday reminded MPs that Parliament is meant for “discussion and dialogue, not for sloganeering” as Opposition members continued their protests on the third day of the Monsoon Session. Amid the uproar, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon to restore order and maintain decorum in the House.
Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till 12 pm on Wednesday amid continued sloganeering and protests by Opposition MPs. In the Lok Sabha, lawmakers kept chanting slogans for the third consecutive day even as Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw replied to questions on Indian Railways. Despite repeated warnings from Speaker Om Birla, the protests showed no signs of stopping, forcing the Chair to adjourn the House.
