Hizbul Chief, Al-Badr Supremo Attend Funeral of Pulwama Attack Mastermind

Karachi : The funeral of Hamza Burhan, a key accused in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, was attended by several top commanders of Pakistan backed terror groups, including Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin and Al-Badr supremo Zameen Bakht, according to reports emerging from Pakistan.

Hamza Burhan, also known as Arjumand Gulzar Dar, was recently killed in Pakistan occupied Kashmir by unidentified attackers. He had long been on the radar of Indian security agencies for his alleged role in terror activities linked to Jammu and Kashmir and was considered one of the important figures associated with the Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel in February 2019.

Reports said the funeral was held in Rawalpindi and was attended not only by terror leaders but also by individuals believed to have links with Pakistan’s security establishment. The gathering has once again raised questions over the continued support and shelter allegedly provided to extremist groups operating against India.

Originally from Pulwama in south Kashmir, Hamza Burhan later emerged as a senior commander of the Al-Badr outfit after moving to Pakistan. Security officials believe he played a major role in reorganising militant networks and recruiting operatives after several top terrorists were eliminated in anti terror operations over the past few years.

The presence of senior terror figures at the funeral is being seen as an attempt to display solidarity among militant organisations despite mounting pressure from security forces in the region.
