Gujarat : Threatening Emails To Three Municipal Corporations Put Security Agencies On High Alert

Ahmedabad : Bomb threat messages have repeatedly surfaced across several cities in Gujarat over the past few years. However, investigations by law enforcement agencies have so far failed to identify those behind the threats, and in every case the alerts have eventually turned out to be hoaxes.

According to sources, fresh bomb threats have now been received by the municipal corporations of Jamnagar, Surat and Vadodara. Preliminary information suggests that the threats were sent via email. Following the alerts, security agencies have been put on high alert and have launched a detailed investigation to trace the origin of the emails and assess any potential risk.

According to sources, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation received a threatening email at around 9:06 am on Wednesday, triggering concern among civic authorities. The email was reportedly addressed to the offices of the Mayor and the Municipal Commissioner and contained threats targeting the Mayor’s Office, the Commissioner’s Office as well as schools in the city.

The message allegedly warned of attacks between June 18 and September 30. Preliminary information suggests that the threat was issued in the name of Khalistan. Following the email, security agencies and municipal officials swung into action, with authorities launching an investigation and stepping up security measures as a precaution.

A bomb threat targeting the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation building has also been received, prompting an immediate response from security agencies. Following the threat, authorities evacuated the entire municipal corporation premises as a precautionary measure. Citizens who had visited the office for various official works were also safely moved out of the building.

Security personnel have cordoned off the area, while Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Dog Squad teams have launched a comprehensive search operation. The teams are thoroughly inspecting all departments, offices, rooms, parking areas and the surrounding premises of the municipal corporation to ensure public safety and rule out any potential threat.

Surat Municipal Corporation has also received a bomb threat, joining Vadodara and Jamnagar among the cities placed on alert. Officials said a threatening email similar to those received by the other municipal corporations was sent to the Surat Municipal Corporation office. Following the alert, police teams, along with the Dog Squad and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), rushed to the civic body’s premises and launched an extensive search operation.

Security personnel have been conducting thorough checks of the office building and surrounding areas. While no suspicious object or individual has been found so far, the search and verification process is continuing as a precautionary measure.
