Gujarat : Rain Lashes Ahmedabad, Highway Washed Away In Junagadh

Ahmedabad : The monsoon has arrived in full force in Gujarat, bringing heavy rain to several parts of the state. Many districts received intense rainfall on Friday, leading to waterlogging and flood-like conditions in some areas. Junagadh was the worst-hit district, with Mangrol receiving 22.20 inches of rain and Maliya Hatina recording 14.09 inches. Waghai in Dang got 13.31 inches of rainfall, while Ambika in Surat recorded 13.19 inches. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in seven districts of Gujarat for Saturday as well.

Heavy rain in the Keshod and Mangrol regions caused floodwaters to flow over National Highway 51 near Husainabad, resulting in extensive damage to the road. In the interest of public safety, traffic on this stretch of the highway has been completely suspended for the time being. Taking stock of the situation, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has advised motorists travelling from Somnath to Dwarka to take the alternate Somnath–Jetpur–Porbandar–Dwarka route.

According to the IMD forecast, Valsad district has also been placed under a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall today. Rainfall data for the two-hour period between 6 am and 8 am has also been released. Kaprada in Valsad recorded the highest rainfall at 18 mm during this period, followed by Kawant in Chhota Udepur with 15 mm. In total, rainfall was reported in 43 talukas across Gujarat over the last two hours.
