Donation Theft Allegations Surface At Badrinath Dham, Temple Panel Begins Inquiry

Ayodhya : As the controversy over alleged embezzlement of donations at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple continues to deepen, a similar issue has now surfaced at Shri Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand. BKTC Chairman Hemant Dwivedi said the temple committee has formed an inquiry panel to conduct an impartial and fact-based investigation into the matter. He said explanations have been sought from the employees concerned and strict action will be taken under the rules if anyone is found guilty.

The allegations, which have gone viral on social media in recent days, are related to the alleged mishandling of offerings and donations received at the temple. Taking note of the claims, the committee said it had acted within 24 hours and was treating the matter seriously because of the faith that millions of devotees place in the shrine. In a video message, Dwivedi said the committee had taken the allegations of misappropriation of donations and offerings at Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Dham very seriously.

The matter came to light after Sandeep Khatri, founding president of Hindu organisation Bhairav Sena, sent a complaint letter to BKTC Chief Executive Officer Sohan Singh Rangad. The letter, sent on July 3, claimed that the sender had received information about an alleged theft during the counting of offerings at Badrinath Dham. The complaint alleged that a person described as the BKTC chairman’s personal secretary had pilfered money from the offerings. It also demanded the registration of an FIR and a fair investigation into the matter.

Reports say Nautiyal has been working as a personal assistant since 2014, beginning during the tenure of then chairman Ganesh Godiyal, and has continued in the same role under subsequent chairmen. Sources in the temple committee said the counting of offerings at Badrinath Dham follows a fixed procedure. Announcements are made as donation bags are opened, and bank employees, temple committee officials, protocol officers and other authorised members remain present during the process. The counting is carried out under established rules to ensure transparency.
