New Delhi : YouTuber Dhruv Rathee detained by Gurgaon Police on Saturday morning ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) proposed protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Rathee had arrived in Delhi ahead of the proposed protest and had publicly questioned the extensive security restrictions imposed in the national capital.
A Gurgaon police officer said the police had tried to persuade Rathee not to attend the protest, citing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in Delhi and the absence of permission for the demonstration. “Gurgaon police tried to make Dhruv Rathee understand that he should not join the CJP protest as they don’t have permission for the same, he didn’t agreed and rather kept posting on social media that he would be at the protest venue in Delhi, we detained him in the morning,” the officer said.
The party asked protesters not to obstruct emergency services, carry weapons or dangerous objects, threaten anyone or force their way through barricades. It also urged participants to avoid hate speech, remain alert to provocation and report attempts to incite violence to CJP coordinators or the police, where safe.
The party further called on protesters to verify information before sharing it, document incidents responsibly and help fellow participants reach safety if tensions rise. It advised them to carry essential identification, necessary medicines and charged mobile phones, while following lawful instructions during police interactions.
“No individual can be allowed to hijack a peaceful protest. Our conduct must reflect our cause,” the party said in its briefing, reiterating its call for peaceful protest, constitutional rights and responsible citizenship. DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan on Saturday backed the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of manipulating elections and supporting the BJP.
