New Delhi : Over 300 flights were affected at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) on Friday due to a technical snag in the air traffic control (ATC) system, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded and triggering ripple effects across several northern airports. The issue lies with the AMSS that supplies information for the Auto Track System.
Controllers are preparing flight plans manually, which is taking significant time,” a senior airport source said. India’s busiest airport, IGIA handles over 1,500 flight movements a day, and the disruption had a major cascading effect on departures and arrivals throughout the morning. A spokesperson for Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) confirmed that flight operations were affected due to a technical issue with the ATC system, adding that teams were working closely with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to restore normalcy at the earliest.
Flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently experiencing delays due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control system, IndiGo posted on X, adding that its ground staff were assisting stranded passengers. While Air India said, We regret the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption, which is beyond our control, and appreciate your patience. Our cabin crew and on-ground staff at the airport are extending immediate assistance to reduce passenger inconvenience.
At the airport, passengers faced long queues, extended wait times on board aircraft, and multiple rescheduling announcements. Many took to social media to complain about being stuck for hours without clarity from airlines. While technicians continued efforts to restore full functionality, officials warned that the backlog could take hours to clear, with ripple delays expected at airports in Lucknow, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Amritsar.
