New Delhi : Wake up at 4 am. Delete names of voters. Go back to sleep. Repeat. This is how the alleged vote theft happened, according to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. In another stirring post on X, Gandhi doubled down on his claim that the Election Commission was “protecting vote chors”, a seeming reference to the BJP.
Wake up at 4 am, delete 2 voters in 36 seconds, then go back to sleep – that’s how vote theft happened! The watchdog of elections stayed awake, kept watching the theft, and kept protecting the thieves,” Gandhi tweeted and posted a segment from his Thursday’s press briefing. Gandhi alleged that illegal deletion and addition of voters were done in Karnataka and Maharashtra, respectively, through the use of centralised software. The Election Commission has rejected the allegations as baseless.
The Leader of the Opposition claimed there was an attempt to delete over 6,000 names from the electoral rolls in the Aland constituency ahead of the 2023 elections. To substantiate his claims, Gandhi cited three case studies. Among them was the case of one person named Nagaraj.
Two applications were filed and submitted in 36 seconds. Please try filling out these forms and see how long it takes you. Its impossible manually,” he said, asserting that it was done through automation. The Congress leader further pointed to the time at which the forms were filed, calling it suspicious. The Congress has also started a signature campaign against alleged voter fraud, with the party posting a video on Friday showing MP Priyanka Gandhi backing the initiative.
